Anatomy of a College Backpack
I mean, the point of college kind of is about the classes, right?
(There's more to college, but basically it's for an academic education beyond 12 school years.)
So. Classes.
To get to class, you need stuff. (I'm very eloquent) And today, I'm going to talk about what I have in my backpack when I'm going to class-
- Laptop: I take notes for several classes on my laptop, and for one of my classes (math, weirdly enough) I actually do homework on it during discussion sections. Pretty useful.
- Notebook and writing utensils: to...take notes
- Planner: so I get down important dates and things I need to do, like test dates and events
- Keys: okay, this one is obvious
- Reader/textbook: you don't always need this, but for some classes you should carry the assigned text for reference; talk to your instructors about that
- Wallet: in case I need to buy something, but also because that's where I keep my ID card and I need that basically everywhere (to get into the dorm building, to get into the dining hall...)
- Calculator: I didn't put this in the photo but I do carry it when I have math class
- Water bottle: also kind of obvious
- First aid kit: to be honest, this one is just a super small kit they gave us during orientation and I figured it might be useful at some point; that point has not yet been reached, luckily
- Tissues: it's fall semester, you might get a cold, so tissues are handy
- Book: for one of my classes, I have to (re)read The Handmaid's Tale - sometimes I carry it around so I can read a bit in between classes
- Snacks: depending on your schedule and how far away your classes are from a) each other and b) a place to eat, you might want to keep something quick and easy to eat in your bag; you probably won't be allowed to eat in class, but you could have something in between classes
- Sunglasses: because I'm on the West Coast and it gets sunny sometimes (but also I like to pretend I'm a movie star, which doesn't really work out so great for me)
That's what's in my backpack! Let me know if you think I included something kinda unnecessary ("too much weight") or if I missed something crucial.
